ART DOPE Art – Rubik’s Cube Art by Space Invadors

When someone can take a medium that should seemingly be bereft of any artistic value and turn it into a work of art, I am not only impressed, but curious beyond belief.

And so I introduce to you Rubik’s Cube art by Space Invader; these masterpieces, which take references from pop culture and classic artistic works alike, are created with a meticulous eye, each cube being turned and managed so that every single square of color serves a purpose.

Doesn’t this just boggle your mind?

ART $50 Million Van Gogh Stolen, Again

DAMN!!!!!! SOMEBODY KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOIN

Not too many paintings get stolen twice from the same museum. A painting of a vase of flowers byVincent van Gogh was stolen for the second time recently from the Mahmoud Khalil Museum in Cairo, Egypt. The AP reports that the painting was also stolen in 1978 and was recovered two years later in Kuwait. The painting is worth a lot more now, an estimated $50 million. The painting known as both “Poppy Flowers” and “Vase and Flowers,” was cut from the frame. Egypt’s top prosecutor, Abdel Meguid Mahmoud has said that none of the alarms and only a handful of surveillance cameras were working when the painting was stolen. On Sunday, Egypt’s culture minister, Farouk Hosni, announced that the painting had been recovered but later it was reported that the painting is still among the missing.

The small one-foot-by-one-foot painting is similar to a flower scene painted by the French artist Adolphe Monticelli and the Monticelli painting also is part of the Khalil collection. It is believed the van Gogh was painted in 1887, during the phase of rapid productivity that marked the years before his suicide in 1890.

ART Andy Warhol “Black & White” at Prism Los Angeles

I GOTTA GET A FEW OF THESE IN MY HOUSE.

Prism Gallery Los Angeles continues with an impressive line-up of shows. End of last week the “Black & White” exhibition of Andy Warhol art opened.

“Prism is pleased to present a selection of late paintings by Andy Warhol. In the mid-1980s, Warhol made a series of silkscreened black and white works with imagery taken from a cross-section of sources. The paintings are stark representations of advertisements, diagrams, maps, and illustrations in newspapers and magazines pulled from his scrapbook of ads from the 1950s. Warhol’s themes of consumer culture, death and religion are dramatically represented in these late works. The ghostly messages seem to fade and dissolve the text into near abstractions. Some 25 years later the immediacy and familiarity of the images still resonate within today’s advertisement and image driven culture.”
